Pattaya high season 2026/27: what to book in advance before prices go up

The Pattaya high season starts in November and hits full speed by around December 20: the sea calms down, the rains leave, and the city fills up so much that people spend weeks hunting for a free apartment near the beach. The good news: if you sort out the essentials in October, December will cost you noticeably less. Below - what order to book things in, what goes first, and what you actually shouldn't buy in advance.
First, the calendar. November is a transition month: early on there can still be evening downpours, by the end the weather is almost always beach-ready. December, January and February are dry, hot and crowded. The busiest weeks run from December 20 to mid-January, when Christmas, New Year and long holidays all overlap. The second peak is Chinese New Year, which falls on February 6 in 2027. Around these dates prices on everything, from rooms to restaurant tables, climb the fastest.
Now point by point, starting with what runs out first.
1. Housing - book it first. Our Pattaya catalog currently has 56 rental listings, one-bedroom units start from 12,000 baht a month, but that is the price on a one-year lease. A single month in December or January usually costs 20-50% more, and the closer to the season, the closer to the top of that range. If you're staying the whole winter, agree on 3-6 months right away: the monthly price drops, and by December there will be almost nothing left to choose from.
2. Scooter - rent it for a month, not by the day. In season Beach Road and Sukhumvit are jammed, and taxi apps often show surge pricing in the evening. The math is simple: a Honda Click 125 costs 250 baht per day, which is 7,500 for 30 days, while a Honda Click 125 for a month is 3,000 baht. A helmet and compulsory state insurance are included, the deposit is 2,000-5,000 baht depending on the model. You need an international or Thai driving license - without one you risk a fine at a checkpoint and trouble with insurance if something happens.
3. Popular sea tours - one to two weeks before the date. Boats only have so many seats, and there are many times more tourists in season than now. For example, Three Wonder Islands: parasailing over the sea, jet ski, banana boat, snorkeling, fishing, a foam party on deck, breakfast, lunch and drinks all day, Russian-speaking guides and hotel transfer. An adult ticket is 2,000 baht, a child ticket for ages 6 to 10 is 1,000, under 5 go free. The key detail: it only runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, so there are just three dates a week, and in December they get taken sooner than you'd like.
4. If you want the sea without the entertainers - simpler islands. The one-day Koh Larn and Koh Sak tour runs every day: morning on Tien Beach, lunch on the island, snorkeling on Koh Sak in the afternoon, sun loungers and masks included. 900 baht for adults, 600 for children. There's less risk of missing out here, but for holiday dates it's still better to book a few days ahead.
5. New Year's Eve - decide in November. Dinners with a view of the bay at restaurants on Beach Road and in hotels for December 31 sell in advance, and by mid-December the best tables are gone. If you plan to see in the New Year in Pattaya at a table rather than on your feet in a crowd, start looking now.
What you don't need to book in advance:
1. A self-guided trip to Koh Larn. The ferry from Bali Hai Pier costs 30 baht and runs all day, tickets are sold on the spot.
2. Massages, markets and street food. Pattaya has more of these than tourists, even in January.
3. A scooter for a couple of days. If you're here for a week and won't ride much, it's easier to rent on the spot. Monthly rental savings make sense when you stay at least three to four weeks.
A couple of tips from people who live here. Come in early November rather than late December: the weather is already almost high-season, but the prices aren't yet. If your dates are flexible, move your holiday to the second half of January: the crowds thin out noticeably after the holidays.
