Visit Wat Pho, the Reclining Buddha Temple – one of the first temples in Bangkok, built by the founder of the Chakri Dynasty, Rama I. Walk around the Royal Palace – the residence of the Chakri monarchs. Currently, King Rama X. resides within the Palace grounds. Visit Wat Phra Kieu or the Emerald Buddha Temple. Here, the Kingdom’s main relic – the Emerald Buddha statue – is kept. Travel on a long-tailed boat along the Chao Phraya River: explore the historic city from an unusual perspective, including residential quarters of poor city residents. Temples of Dawn and Golden Mountain. Lunch at a panoramic restaurant on the 76th floor of Baiyoke Sky – the entire City of Angels available at your feet! Free time at the local souvenir and goods market to shop for everything from Thai silk to balms, traditional costumes, and modern fashion. Your shoulders and knees should be covered (for temple visits). Exchange large bills beforehand or carry small change (for donations at temples). Bring a hat or umbrella, and sunblock.
